WHAT IS NEVADA NONPROFITS

Nevada Nonprofits is a statewide, member-based association network working to strengthen and unify Nevada’s nonprofit sector. Through coordinated advocacy, training, and collaboration, the Association helps nonprofits engage in public policy, build stronger organizations, and amplify their collective impact.

WHY THIS MATTERS

Nevada is one of the few states without a statewide nonprofit association, leaving organizations without coordinated advocacy, sector-wide support, or a unified voice. As a result, nonprofits often face challenges navigating and influencing public policy, even though these decisions shape nearly every aspect of their work, from funding and program design to daily operations.

At the same time, many nonprofits lack the capacity or clarity to engage in advocacy, and misconceptions about what advocacy entails continue to hold organizations back.

Nevada Nonprofits aims to fill this gap by bringing the sector together, strengthening its collective voice, and advancing policies that better support nonprofits and the communities they serve.

WHO’S BEHIND THIS

The Association is being developed through a first-of-its-kind collaboration of key organizations and sector leaders across Nevada, including:

  • Center for Nonprofit Business (Reno)
  • CEO Exchange (Las Vegas)
  • Community Foundation of Northern Nevada (Reno)
  • Nevada Community Foundation (Las Vegas)
  • Nevada GrantLab (Las Vegas)
  • United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra (Reno)
  • United Way of Southern Nevada (Las Vegas)

The Steering Committee will be responsible for key governance functions of the Association.

CORE PILLARS

Modeled after national best practices and tailored to Nevada’s unique landscape, the Association aims to focus its' efforts on the following pillars:

  • Advocacy & Policy Leadership
  • Training & Capacity Building
  • Data & Insights
  • Convening & Collaboration
  • Public Awareness

UPDATES & WHAT’S NEXT:

The Steering Committee is actively moving this effort forward with an aggressive timeline. Current priorities include:

  • After an extensive, competitive search, Nevada Nonprofits chose Founding Executive Director, Lisa Corrado, as the leader of the new organization. Lisa has more than 20 years’ combined experience in public policy, government affairs and outreach. Much of her experience was in community engagement at the local and regional level, developing and building partnerships and aligning activities to maximize impact, as well as overseeing strategic planning and guiding implementation across multiple departments and organizations.
  • Nevada Nonprofits is also excited to welcome Henry Rosas to support Nevada Nonprofits’ initial incubation and legislative efforts. Prior to joining Nevada Nonprofits, he led several statewide legislative and political campaigns organizing our state's nonprofits, Latino communities, and youth voters. He looks forward to collaborating with nonprofits across the state over the next year to ensure the sector's collective impact is represented and advocated for.
  • Continuing to secure seed funding to support operations and infrastructure
  • Finalizing governance structure and membership framework
  • Engaging key stakeholders across the state to build early momentum and alignment

This next phase is focused on building a strong foundation to ensure the Association is positioned to succeed and thrive.
